Laura on the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg

“Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you” – Ruth Bader Ginsberg.

Friday, September 18, we lost a truly inspiring and courageous leader.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a trailblazer in the fight for women’s rights and equality. She broke barriers throughout her career to become the second woman to be appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court. She dedicated her life to public service in addition to being a teacher, an advocate, a mother, and a role model for many.

Personally, I have always been in awe of her accomplishments. She was not afraid to stand up for what she believed in. Her tenacity, determination and undeniable work ethic were incredibly admirable. I look to her as an example of what women are capable of and how important it is for us to make sure our voices and opinions are heard and respected.

We remember her not just in sadness, but in appreciation for the walls she broke down to ensure that women are always a part of the conversation. She leaves behind a legacy that will inspire women everywhere to break through those walls themselves and accomplish their dreams. It is a legacy I intend to reflect on as I continue my tenure in public service as a representative of our community.
